ImageTreepak’s strategy to enable mass reforestation is to create economic incentives to promote reforestation, reversing the trend to destroy forests and woodlands.  Treepak’s operations generate income from a wide variety of sources.  We create revenues from the sustainable harvesting of timber and non-wood forest products as well as the increase in land values and forests themselves.  We also generate revenues from carbon credits reinforcing the invaluable role of forests to remove carbon from the atmosphere.

Landowners, both private and public, use Treepak technologies to replant forests to fulfil their business requirements; or national obligations.  These operations enhance land values by regenerating areas for productive use.  Our primary focus is the major deforested areas within the tropical rainforests of South America, Africa and south east Asia.  These are the areas with the highest rates of deforestation, which we aim to reverse using our novel technologies.  Our operations are global and Treepak’s expertise is equally applicable to temperate forests.

ImageThe Silvicultural sector provides services to three main types of customer: land owners; communities and governments; and NGOs and charities.  We enter into strategic alliances with private and public landowners.  The Silvicultural sector develops reforestation strategies for former forests that have been destroyed or degraded.  We provide forestry management services, supervision of newly reforested areas, and conduct environmental impact studies to make certain the forests are healthy and sufficiently bio-diverse.  We provide irrigation systems and forestry management know-how to sustain the trees until they are capable of sustaining themselves.

The global market for ‘roundwood’ timber was US$64bn in 2005, a huge and growing market.  The market for non-wood forest products is increasing.  In 2005 this market was valued at US$5bn but the reported statistics probably cover only a small fraction of the true total value.  Treepak’s expertise in selecting trees for their by-products aims to grow this sector significantly.  Alongside natural food products such as fruit and nuts, we will harvest valuable by-products – from gums and oils for the food industry; to essential oils for the perfume and the complimentary health industry, to natural ingredients for the medical, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, and also oils for use as bio-fuels.

ImageOur projects earn carbon credits through capturing carbon from the atmosphere; and we work closely with the accredited verification companies overseeing the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol.  Treepak will earn further fees by making arrangements for the management of the forests.  This will ensure minimum damage and disturbance to the trees and preserve the validity of the Carbon Credits.
